Helping Kids Understand
Computers and How They Function
As you may well know, today’s world revolves around technology. It seems as though this generation seeks to stay up on the latest technology gadgets and the electronically social world. While not all aspects of technology are beneficial for our kids, being able to use these devices is almost a requirement to succeed in life academically, socially, and financially. In today’s job market it is almost impossible to land a good paying and rewarding job without basic computer knowledge and skills. Academically speaking, having computer skills can open up doors and opportunities a child might not otherwise have without these skills.Let's be honest at times, especially these days, teaching kids a new skill can be a daunting task; however this article will give you some tips on how you can teach your children how to use a computer. For starters, you will want to begin with the basic exterior parts of the computer so they may understand how to use them properly. The computer base, otherwise known as the tower, is the piece which holds all the inner workings of the computer.
Without the tower, there would be no computer. From the tower, you can power up the computer to start learning how to use it. The other exterior devices needed to make the computer function would be the monitor, mouse, and keyboard.
Now days, you can purchase a computer with the tower, or the brains of the computer, built into the monitor. This makes for a more sleek design and takes up less space. Once a child has an understanding of each of these parts (you probably won’t need to go into great detail like what the hua723030ala640 hard drive does.
Instead just that it is a hard drive, and how computer parts function, you can then move on to how to use the actual software on the computer.
There are many different types of computers which exist
today. Choosing one which is easy to use and reliable is of top priority. For
this article, we will focus on a PC, which will utilize a Windows operating
system. You can explain to your child that the Windows operating system is how
you navigate where you want to go on the PC. You will want to go over the
basics, such as the START button at the bottom of the screen.
From there you
can show them all of the options available on the PC. Take them to the various
areas such as games, the Internet, and any programs which may be installed on
the computer. Teaching your child about the Internet, as well as software
programs like Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, are some of the areas which will
assist them the most while going through school. Based on your child’s ability
and maturity level, you can teach them many more things pertaining to the
computer over a period of time.
